BEYOND THE CROWN

I previously wrote about my Ms New Zealand World Universal Journey. This is the second iteration of the pageant series where I will be talking about what it means to hold an international title. I share highlights on the meaning behind pageantry and my platform and give you an even closer look into my personal journey and vision for the future.

As a modern Womxn of Colour in Tech, I understand the importance of representation, great allies, employee resource groups and career development programs in the workplace. I have been extremely fortunate to have had remarkable mentors that helped me grow and succeed in an industry that I am passionate about. 

Disadvantaged youth face challenges and suffer lasting effects of unhealthy and unsafe environments and often have limited opportunities for a sustainable, successful future. Early disadvantage exposes these vulnerable group to higher risk of juvenile criminal offenses, depression, substance abuse and even homelessness. 

The history behind Womxn in Computing goes back to the early 20th century where womxn became pioneer programmers. This work was considered tedious and so came to be considered as "womxn's work". All tasks involving programming and calculations were left for the womxn who, turns out were great at it and proceeded to make History

My Team4Tech journey begun in July 2020 when I came across an article about a volunteer driven, social impact program with the mission of improving the Quality of Education for underserved learners around the world  This project  was facilitated through a partnership with TeachUNITED benefiting Okeeswa, a school in Tanzania. 

This is a follow up on my previous blog on Climbing Kilimanjaro where I wrote about my journey with Team4Tech on a Social Impact Project for Schools in Tanzania. This year [2021], I've had the honour ow partnering with Team4Tech again on yet another project with The African SOUP - this time in the beautiful country of Uganda. 

The concept of Ikigai was first introduced to me a few years back and admittedly it's taken me several iterations of self development, actualisation and growth to start to understand it's depths fully. We often use Venn diagrams to show logical intersections between a number of ideals, 

January 26 is a day when the community comes together in Quiet Reflection, Respect and Celebration. Every year, I get to learn more about the history and the Story of Australia. This year I was looking forward to spending the better part of the day exploring the various events across Sydney.

When we overcome adversity, it pays to pay if forward. As someone that has endured treacherous bullying, I know first hand just how that trickles down to many aspects of our lives - Mental health is a big one, How many people do you know that suffer through this everyday?...
